Workshop on
The Future of User Authentication and
Authorization on the Web:

Challenges in Current Practice, New Threats, and Research Directions

Friday, March 4, 2011
Co-located with
Financial Cryptography and Data Security 2011
St. Lucia

The web is essential for business and personal activities well beyond information retrieval, such online banking, financial transactions, and payment authorization, but reliable user authentication remains a challenge. The increasing use of smart phones and other mobile devices, with their new user interfaces and input modalities, present both additional opportunities and issues for user authentication beyond those of traditional PC platforms. Advances require combining new design ideas with awareness of new device technologies, business and user requirements, evolving attack trends and techniques, and traditional analysis methodologies from the security and HCI communities.

The one-day workshop will explore important questions in this area. The goal is to assemble influential researchers and other participants from government and industry to reflect upon and progress the research and state of the art, spurring on future work through the interaction. The workshop is co-located with FC'11 to attract, and draw upon, expertise from the community, complementing traditional FC interests in commerce security, commercial contexts, and aspects of security transactions and systems. The program consists of one keynote, two invited talks and four invited panels. Papers stimulated by the workshop may be published at a later time.
