Prevalence of EV Certs in Canadian Banks
A separate mini-study was done using the websites from the five major Canadian banks to see how many offered EV certificates to their customers. These included: Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), Toronto-Dominion Bank (TD), Bank of Nova Scotia (Scotiabank), Bank of Montreal (BMO), and Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC).
In September 2016, only 1/5 of the major banks had an EVC, and it was only evident on the login page (not sooner). As of February 2017, 3/5 banks have EVC on their websites, as seen in the table below.

EVC prevalence among major Canadian banks
We show the situation for both landing and login pages, because we feel that users may find it odd that a landing does not provide identity (and can thus be labeled “insecure”) should link to a login that does provide identity (i.e. would they trust the link?).
