I am a Professor of Human-Computer Interaction appointed to the School of Computer Science<\/a> and the Institute of Cognitive Science<\/a> at  Carleton University<\/a>, in Ottawa, Canada.
\nI was a student at the University of Waterloo<\/a>, and then later at the University of Canterbury<\/a> and the Dunedin College of Education<\/a>. I worked in software industry jobs in both Canada and New Zealand. Before I returned to Canada,  I was on the faculty in Computer Science<\/a> at Victoria University of Wellington<\/a> (VUW), Wellington, New Zealand<\/a>, where I retain a position as Adjunct Professor.<\/p>\n

My interests are in “the secret life of software”: how software can work in rich and subtle ways with human expression and human behaviour. My current projects are on computer security, computer games, and agile software development. I led the theme on Human-Oriented Security for NSERC ISSNet<\/a>, co-led the theme on Agile Software Development for NSERC SurfNet<\/a>, and led the project on Security and Privacy in New Media Environments for the GRAND NCE<\/a>.<\/p>\n
